5280 Magazine Debut

denim_warsA few months back I got my first assignment from 5280 Magazine, it was an argumentative piece on cheap or designer jeans. The shoot took place at the Blues Jean Bar in Cherry Creek. I have to say being the first shoot for them I was pretty excited and really wanted to knock this one out of the park. When shooting on location you never know what your going to do until you get there. You can go through setups in your head but the creative juices really start when you get on site. Since the subject was an inanimate object I didn’t feel the need to take lights. Instead I used the ambient light in the store and a tripod. I walked around the store and captured every inch of that place. I was there about and hour and ended up with 300 or so shots. The photo editor picked this image from the batch. Here’s a link to the article online.

Sharayah & Joey’s Engagement Session

What a great session, I really enjoyed working with these two. Not only where they fun to work with, they wanted to shoot at places that aren’t typical spots for an engagement session. We started around civic center park and walked over to the Denver Art Museum. While chatting we started talking about graffiti walls, I mentioned I knew of a place and before I knew it we where on are way. I’m really glad we went, they turned out to be my favorite of the day.

Another great thing about this shoot is I got to play with some new gear that was purchased. I purchased some new pocketwizards and speedlites which added a lot to these awesome shots.

Congrats Sharayah and Joey!

DJ Mada gets lit up

I had a shoot with Adam (a.k.a. DJ Mada) the other day and we knocked out some really cool shots. I switched up the lighting quite a few times during the shoot and the results are fantastic. Big thanks to Adam for being patient while changing out setups. One great thing about trying new lighting techniques is that you have a good idea of what you want it to look like but can’t completely tell until you snap the shot. Some of these are new setups for me and they’ll be in my arsenal from now on. These are my favorites from the shoot.

DJ Scene destroy’s Robusto Room

DJ Scene put on a clinic at the Robusto Room a few weeks ago. Peter asked me to shoot this event and I couldn’t wait to check out what he would lay down. He destroyed his set with mashups from all genres. If you missed this show, you truly missed out. The dance floor was packed, the booty’s where shaking and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

Sub Urban at Robusto Room

So the first event of “Sub Urban” took place this past weekend at the Robusto Room. Rock Star Industries Inc was there knocking out hair, BC surf and sport was also present handing out new skate decks (I actually got one, thanks a million).  One great thing about shooting Peter’s events is, I get to pretty much do whatever I want in post production. It always gives me a chance to try different techniques and be a little bit more radical. These are some of my favorites from the event.

Young Professionals Network

I shot an event for Y.P.N “Young Professional Network”, presented by Brownstein | Hyatt | Farber | Schreck. It was in an awesome venue Downtown. There was a huge roof/balcony area which had a great view and since it was a lovely evening, most people stayed outside. The owners are looking to lease the space, so it had a cool unfinished ambiance inside. I had a wonderful time and got some great shots.

Skateboarding in Denver

Talking about skating made me think of  some home videos I have. One is of my buddy Ben Waymire and I putting some work in around Denver. The other is a quick video of my nose breaking (skateboard nose) from a ollie nose grab shove it. I’m working on a new video but need more footage, give me a call, lets go skate…. You know who you are!

Nike Skateboard team visit the D.

Some of you may know this about me, however, some may not, I still love to skateboard! Yeah, Yeah, I’m in my thirties and still skating but Tony Hawk is 41 and still ripping. Of course I don’t skate as well as Tony or make as much cash but I still love to kick around. If I did skate that well, I probably would traveling the world skating.

Needless to say when I heard the Nike Skateboard team was coming to town I had to go check it out. They came and destroyed the Denver park. If you haven’t seen pro skaters killing a park, I highly recommend checking it out. Here are a few images taken from the demo. Oh, if you know the last guys name please leave a comment.
